Why your personal data is shared
We have engaged with Smart Communications Inc. (“SMART”) to operate, control, manage, and administer our SIM Registration Portal. In turn, SMART has engaged the services of ZOLOZ Global (“ZOLOZ”) to help us enable the automated validation of the Personal Data you submit to register your PLP SIM Card.
Through a technology called Optical Character Recognition (“OCR”), the information in the government-issued ID you submit, such as your name, date of birth, among others, is automatically transcribed in the SIM Registration form. The same OCR technology will also be used to capture and validate the photograph that you have taken of oneself or selfie using facial recognition. For your security and protection, this OCR technology has been enabled for its spoof detection capabilities in order to prevent another person from impersonating you by using a photo or video to hack or gain unauthorized access to your biometrics.
Any Personal Data processed using the technology of ZOLOZ will be transmitted to the SIM Register of PLDT immediately and will only be retained in ZOLOZ’s systems for a maximum period of 24 hours, solely for quality assurance and audit purposes. After which, ZOLOZ will securely and permanently destroy all Personal Data that it has processed on our behalf.
We have also engaged the services of SMART and its sub-contractor, Infocom Technologies Inc. (“Infocom”), for the manual validation of the Personal Data that you submit to register your PLP SIM Card, in cases where the government-issued ID that you have submitted cannot be processed by the OCR, or if the OCR validation has failed. On our behalf, SMART and Infocom will ensure that your registered name matches the name in the government-issued ID that you have provided.
All of our Service Providers (SMART, ZOLOZ, and Infocom) may only process your Personal Data in connection with the above purposes for which they were engaged. When your Personal Data is shared with our Service Providers, we ensure that it is done on a confidential basis, through secure channels, and in compliance with the Data Privacy Law and other applicable laws and regulations.
